The U of M hosted The Tommies as part of the Chris Jenkins Memorial Invitational on Sunday, April 15

Entering the weekend, the Tommies were preparing for one of their biggest games of the year against rival St. Johns in what turned out to be a tightly contested game, coming down to the final seconds.  The teams battled for sixty minutes, proving yet again why this rivalry is a great one each year, but the game went to the Johnnies by a final score of 7-6.  Sophomore midfielder, Will Hersman led the Tommies in scoring (2g, 1a), but the Tommie offense faced a stellar SJU defense led by junior goaltender, Michael King.  It was the first loss for St. Thomas on the season, but they retain their number 1 ranking in the MCLA entering their final regular season game this weekend at home versus North Dakota State.

The Tommies wrapped up the weekend with a scrimmage against the University of Minnesota Gophers at TCF Bank stadium for the Chris Jenkins Memorial Invitational.  This was the first trip to “The Bank” for UST and they showed their ability to rebound after a tough loss with an encouraging 8-3 victory on a beautiful Sunday afternoon for lacrosse.

This Sunday marks the ends to a great four years for the class of 2012 as we celebrate Senior Day with a pivotal UMLL matchup against a youthful NDSU squad led at attack by sophomore Peter Flock (25g, 15a) and freshman Ben Alberts (14g, 13a). Bison head coach Zach Bosh has done a tremendous job over the years of developing this young program, rising from the bottom of the UMLL six years ago to a current #9 national ranking in MCLA D2.  St. Thomas will certainly be prepared for the Bison this weekend, as they both share a victory over reigning national champion Davenport and both have suffered losses to St. John’s.  This matchup will determine the seeding heading into the UMLL Tournament, and set the stage for a potential Tommie/Johnnie rematch for the automatic bid to Nationals.  Game time is 10am, with senior recognition starting at 9:30 so come on out to Palmer Field at O’Shaughnessy Stadium and share your support for the St. Thomas Class of 2012!

Class of 2012 includes:
Jesse Amar (Andover HS), Michael Fitzgerald (Hyde School, NY), Kevin Gause (Hopkins HS), John Hasbargen (Edina HS), Sam Posl (Andover HS), and Steve Reese (St. Thomas Academy)

Thank you for your years of hard work, dedication and loyalty to the University of St. Thomas Lacrosse team!
