After defeating the Moorhead State Dragons three weeks ago up at St. John's University, the Tommies and the Dragons squared off again on Saturday, May 1. The game, at McMurrray Field in St. Paul, was part of the Upper Midwest Lacrosse League's (UMLL) season-end conference tournament. Saturday's semi-final round game was influenced by cold temperatures and gale-force winds. In the end, the huddled and shivering fans saw UST emerge with a 20 - 1 victory.

The St. Thomas offense was again firing on all cylinders as shots from nine players found the back of the net. Newly-converted attackman Ryan Doyle led all scorers with four goals while middies Cooper Mazon and Ryan Pietsch tallied three each.

St. Thomas' breakout goalie, Tom Thone, with strong support from the athletic defensive unit, held the Dragons scoreless for most of the game. Thone's stellar perfomance demonstrated why he is the UMLL conference leader in save percentage and the top-ranked goalie in MCLA Division II.

With the win over Moorhead State, the Tommies advance into the UMLL Championship game to be held at Concordia University's brand-new Seafoam Stadium. Awaiting the Tommies at 2:30 pm on Sunday (May 2) are the Johnnies who defeated NDSU in the other semi-final game.

Not only are bragging rights at stake in the UMLL championship game but also a possible #1-ranking and an automatic invitation to the college National Championships in Denver.

Go Tommies!
