Tommie Interviews During Pre-Game Warm Ups

05/14/2010, 11:45am (CST)
By Dustin Clark & Sean Thompson

Editors note:  UST alumi Dustin Clark and Sean Thompson received official media credentials from MCLA Tournament Staff.  As members of the press, Dustin and Sean had full media access to players throughout the tournament, including on-field access.  Much of their work was from the press box high above the stadium's turf. However, the two alumni reporters got down on the field just before the championship game to interview some of the players.

Dustin & Sean:  Game time is just a few minutes away.  As an senior playing in your final college championship game, describe your emotions.

  • Derek Michalski (senior):  "I'm not thinking about this being my last game.  Right now, we have just one job to do today.  That job is to win this one game.  So right now, I am completely focused on playing my very best and helping the team play its very best.
  • Dan Soukup  (senior):  "Utah Valley has a strong offense.  Therefore, we need to have a big day on defense.  If Derek and I do our jobs well, we can make this game a lot easier by giving our attackmen the ball and giving our offense good scoring opportunities."
  • Andrew Larson (senior):  "We're glad the weather cleared up.  It is a great day for lacrosse!"

Dustin & Sean: As a freshman, this is your first college  national tournament.  Describe what you and the other younger members of the team are feeling going into this big game.

  • Dave Chlipala (freshman):  "Yeah, this is pretty exciting to be here for the first time.  We know there are high expectations for us on this field.  Especially as younger players, we are just trying to deliver and help the team win this game."
