After a few weeks off from Upper Midwest Lacrosse League competition, the University of St. Thomas men’s lacrosse team resumed conference play with a pair of wins this past weekend.

On Saturday, the Tommies faced the Knights from Carleton College.  UST got off to a quick start, with sophomore midfielder David Chlipala netting the first goal just seconds after the opening faceoff, en route to an 21-4 victory.  The Tommies showed off their depth on both sides of the ball.  Offensively, ten different players notched goals, with seven of the ten scoring multiple goals.  Defensively, eighteen different players saw action, including all three goaltenders.

Sunday’s matchup featured UST and the Oles of St. Olaf College.  From the opening whistle, St. Thomas controlled the contest with methodical offensive possessions, and staunch defense on their way to a 29-4 win.  Defensively, the Tommies were led by freshman goalie Ryan Zeilinger, who recorded a team high five saves, and freshman defenseman Chris Weitgenant.  Offensively, the team featured twelve different goal scorers, led by senior midfielder Matt Shamp and freshman attackman Adam Porter, who both posted their first career multiple goal games, and by sophomore attackman David Burke, who recorded a game-high four assists.
With the two wins, St. Thomas improved to 3-0 in UMLL, and 8-1 overall.  Next up for the Tommies is a trio of out-of-conference opponents, with games against Northern Colorado on Friday night, Davenport University on Saturday night, and Missouri State on Sunday morning.  All three games will be played at Palmer Field in O’Shaughnessy Stadium on the St. Thomas campus.
